Children of 1971 aims to heal those within the diaspora, foster cultural appreciation, and build a community by connecting our varied identities through common language and culture. We bridge communities and generations through shared stories and social awareness.

Children of 1971 was founded in July 2018 as a storytelling platform for the Bangladeshi diaspora. We have interviewed hundreds of people across the diaspora in an effort to connect individual experiences to our collective history. Along with sharing stories, we have held meet-ups in Bangladeshi-owned restaurants, hosted a Bangladeshi-American comedy show in the heart of NYC, and raised $30,000 for our Bangladeshi COVID-19 Relief Fundraiser with BD Food Bank. In August 2020, the Children of 1971 team began taking steps towards becoming a nonprofit to better serve and promote growth in the Bangladesh Diaspora
